Tera’s NRM – Newsroom Manager
Tera’s NRM – Newsroom Manager – is a planning tool and resource manager that coordinates people, time, projects and assets. Designed in cooperation with newsroom editors, NRM is fully integrated in Tera’s GN3 multi-media content-production system.
NRM is designed for a newsroom’s Central Desk, the place where tasks are assigned, resources allocated and deadlines defined. NRM manages the workflow involved in producing content.
Like the Central Desk, NRM manages projects. Like Central Desk projects, an NRM project may be an article, a series of articles or basic research in support of some future article An NRM project can be anything from a simple article to the planning and implementation of a new title, or even the annual newsroom holiday party. An NRM project can be composed of sub-projects.
NRM tracks the allocation of personnel, equipment, and facilities.
The result of a newsroom project is content, usually an article. Because NRM is completely integrated into GN3, the article, the text, the pictures, by lines, cut lines, hed lines and all the other elements of the project can have a separate deadline, equipment association, and assignment to a staff member. NRM facilitates the job of the Central Desk.
Full integration means that NRM has the same look-and-feel as GN3 because it is GN3. NRM is part of the GN3 shell. It is seamlessly available to GN3 users. Like all parts of GN3, NRM facilities are available to users on an as-needed basis through standard GN3 user profiles.
NRM data are stored in the GN3 database to providing full audit and taking full advantage of all GN3 data intregrity and management facilities.
Does your newspaper track article costs? NRM can too. Allocated resources, people and equipment may each be associated with a cost, making it easy to calculate the cost of each task. Costing data can then be forwarded to the financial system for a more accurate look at production costs.
The advantages of NRM are more efficient use of resources, better planning, reporting and cost control. NRM’s graphical reporting makes it easy to see the allocation of people and assets.
