Taking Content into the Digital Future
The Tera Manifesto

Crossmedia Publishing

GN3 is the media-neutral Newspaper content management system from Tera Digital Publishing

GN3 makes a single newsroom a cohesive reality rather than a disjointed collection of systems. Designed, engineered and implemented by Tera Digital Publishing, GN3 provides the features, integration and low cost of ownership that a modern-day newspaper requires.

GN3’s ability to equally support all media, print and electronic, is based upon GN3’s Article-Based Content Management, industry-standard database and XML. A database yields speed, organization and flexibility. XML brings flexibility, and the ease of communications with other systems.

GN3 Content is organized into articles

An article is a linked group of objects such headlines, pictures, audio and video files, metadata, polls, picture galleries and all the things that only a truly media-neutral system, like GN3, can manage. A GN3 system is configured rather than customized, reducing Risk, Cost and Delay.

In a customized system, with each system update, there is only more Risk, Cost and Delay.

Using GN3, each newspaper can make their own definition of an article.

For example, how many headlines, subheads, bylines, or picture galleries an article has. Each item of content might be published in one or more print editions, on one or more websites, on mobile devices; some content may be published on multiple medias. GN3 configuration makes all of this possible.

Content today comes from a multitude of sources

Content generated in house is just one source. Content comes from staffers on the road, occasional contributors, obituaries, readers, emails, and User-Generated Content (UCG). The list grows and will not stop growing any time soon.

The task is to validate the incoming content, transform it into a usable form and place that content into the content management workflow.

GNPortal is the perfect tool to ingest, validate, transform and normalizecontent whether entered manually through a website or electronically through e-mail, Webservices, RSS or wire feeds. GNPortal is cost-effective and scalable and uses Tera’s, Content Management Services Architecture.

Tera’s CMSA is the architecture to manage the content formats and presentation technologies of the future.

For print media

FRED, GN3’s Pagination tool, sends your paginator’s productivity skyward, while protecting you’re expensive design. Privileged users can produce unique, award-winning designs.

During routine page production, your stylebook is enforced yielding the consistent appearance and features that readers prize.

FRED and GN3 properly support both layout-driven and content-driven newspapers. Both editors and reports working on a story are instantly updated whenever story length or geometry change – no manual refresh or open-and-closing the page is required.

Zoning, Multiple Editions, Targeted Content

Zoning, multiple-editions and targeted content in your print publications is just one more place where GN3 excels.

Pages are not duplicated to achieve zoning or editioning. There are no restrictions on the differences or similarities among editions or the number of different editions a page may appear in. The user interface is visual and intuitive.

Portions of a page in one edition may contain one mix of editorial content and advertising and a completely different mix in another edition. Your paper’s requirements determine the differences between editions.

GN3’s centralized picture desk is just one more feature of the complete GN3 editorial content management system. A single user interface controls picture selection for both archiving and production.

One-Click-to-Web Publishing

Tera’s GNWeb provides complete preview capabilities, polling, blogs, picture galleries, geo-tagging and the rich palette of features necessary for a highly attractive web-presence that will attract readers and support advertisers.

At any time, a correctly privileged user can send an article to web with a single mouse click. One-Click-to-Web means that fast-breaking stories can be continually updated encouraging readers to return over and over again to follow each day’s events.

Tark, Industry Benchmark Archiving

Tark, Tera’s archiving system is the benchmark against which other archiving products are measured. Tark is fast and provides capabilities that other systems strive for and fail to deliver. Search for a term and see all the pages where that term was used. Click on a picture and see everywhere that picture was used, even if it was cropped, transformed into back and white or otherwise edited. ITPC headers and other metadata are kept intact. When an element is used and re-archived a new element isn’t created, Tark tracks that the element is being reused.

If a query is too general, Tark+ will group the results, recognize places and people, and suggest alternatives to return fewer results or suggest another query that may yield better results.

Tera’s NRM - Newsroom Manager - is a planning tool and resource manager that coordinates people, time, projects and assets. Designed in cooperation with newsroom editors, NRM manages the workflow involved in producing content. NRM is designed for a newsroom’s Central Desk, the place where tasks are assigned, resources allocated and deadlines defined.

GN3 is based on standards

GN3 is based on professional industry standards such as .NET, a standard SQL database and XML. GN3 is 100% XML, meaning that communicating with other systems is well defined. When used with Tera’s GNPortal, Web Services and Web forms are defined not programmed.

GN3 is fully compliant with ICC profiles and is ISO-2788 retrieval-standard compatible. Color images are stored with their ICC profiles.

Tera’s quality of engineering, configure-instead-of-customize and superb support mean that a Tera system has a very low cost of ownership.

Tera’s customer loyalty, over 99%, the highest of any vendor attests to Tera’s customer satisfaction
